Steps you need to take to register<\/h1>\n

Step 1. Decide if you want to participate<\/h2>\n

Are you available and do you have the time?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

April 12th, 2025<\/em> \u2013 The day of the Lakeland Regional Science Fair, held at Portage College in St. Paul, Alberta.<\/p>\n

From now until the fair, you’ll be brainstorming, planning, executing, and finally, presenting your project. So, before you leap in, think about this:<\/strong> Are you available on April 12th? Can you commit some extra time to work on your project in the upcoming weeks? Remember, science fairs are incredibly rewarding, but they do require extra time. It’s your call!<\/p>\n

Step 2. Get on the science fair contact list<\/h2>\n

Putting yourself on our science fair list doesn\u2019t mean you\u2019re promising to participate \u2013 just that you\u2019d like to be kept in the loop.

Step 3. Choose a science fair topic<\/h2>\n

Picking the right topic for your science fair project might seem tough, but it’s the most exciting part! Let’s explore some important things to keep in mind when considering a topic:<\/p>\n

  1. Do you really like the topic?<\/strong> Selecting a subject just because it seems impressive, but doesn’t genuinely excite you, might not yield great results. On the other hand, a topic that genuinely inspires you will help keep your interest and the work will feel much easier to do. It’s all about choosing something that sparks your curiosity and passion!<\/li>\n
  2. Is the topic suitable for a science fair?<\/strong> You\u2019d be surprised at how many things can make a great science fair project, especially if competition isn\u2019t your goal, but there are a couple things any science fair project should have.\n
      \n
    1. A good science fair project should have<\/em> –\n
        \n
      1. A topic that helps you or others learn more about science, and\/or<\/li>\n
      2. A question that can be tested and\/or measured.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      3. Example of a bad topic:<\/strong> \u201cHow fast can my dirt bike go?\u201d<\/em>\n
          \n
        1. This might sound fun, and yes, you can test it. But, it won’t teach you or others much about any scientific topic.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        2. Example of a good topic:<\/strong> \u201cHow fast can my dirt bike go while using different types of fuel?<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>\n
            \n
          1. This is a testable question that might even help you and others understand more about how fuel combustion works!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          2. Can you complete the project?<\/strong> Think about if you can finish your project successfully. Do you have enough time? Will you have the help you need? Is your idea safe and okay with your parents and teachers? Also, consider how much it may cost.\n
              \n
            1. Tip:<\/em> If you need help from anyone, confirm they can help before you settle on a project.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            2. Before you invest too much time into an idea, ask someone else what they think!<\/strong> Nothing would be worse than spending hours on an idea, only to later realize that there was some reason why it wouldn\u2019t work as a science fair project. So, ask a parent, teacher, or contact someone involved with the LRSF!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
