- Students are encouraged to ask their science teacher if their school is registering for the 2026 Bison Regional Science Fair
- If the school is not going to register, then the student should ask their science teacher to email [email protected] for more information about both school registration, as well as registering as an independent entry.

Here are the latest BRSF and Youth Science Canada updates that may be of interest to you. There are quite a few, so let’s dive in:
In person BRSF and Canada Wide Science Fair 2026 Project Classification The National Judging Policy Committee has finalized the project classification for the 2025-26 Canada-Wide Science Fair:
- 2 project types – Discovery (Create new fundamental knowledge based on your curiosity by asking a question and using the techniques of scientific inquiry to develop an answer) and Innovation (Combine scientific principles with your creativity to develop a new material, structure, device, or system to solve a problem or improve an existing solution)
- 4 grade categories – Elementary ( grade 4/6) , Junior(grade 7/8), Intermediate (grade 9/10), Senior (grade 11,12)
- 9 Challenges – Aerospace, Agriculture, Fisheries & Food; Curiosity & Ingenuity; Digital Technology; Disease & Illness; Energy; Environment & Climate Change; Health & Wellness; Natural Resources
o Note: projects unrelated to one of the other challenges should select Curiosity & Ingenuity.

Finding a Mentor
A great mentor can make all the difference in your science fair journey!
You can start by reaching out to someone who can support your project—such as your science teacher, parent, or even a professional at a local university, research lab, or company.

Working With Your Mentor
Once you’ve connected with your mentor:

Share your project topic, research question, and design ideas.

Ask for constructive feedback and use their suggestions to strengthen your project.

Stay in touch regularly and set a schedule that works for both of you.

Remember: communication, respect, and curiosity go a long way!
Mentor Guidelines
All mentors and mentees are asked to review and sign the BRSF Mentorship Code of Conduct before beginning their partnership.

Mentor & Mentee Responsibilities
Both mentors and mentees are expected to:

Treat one another with respect and professionalism.

Commit time and effort to the mentorship.

Set clear expectations at the beginning of the partnership.

Not offer or accept any form of payment.

Maintain confidentiality within the mentorship.

Read, sign, and follow the BRSF Code of Conduct.
Mentee (Student) Responsibilities
As a student participant, you are encouraged to:

Clearly communicate your project goals and needs.

Maintain regular and open communication with your mentor.
-
Complete agreed-upon tasks on time.
-
Keep all shared information confidential.
-
Maintain a professional and respectful relationship throughout the mentorship.
