The purpose of judging science fair projects is to encourage students to take ownership and pride in their projects. This is done by providing positive feedback along with constructive questions to lead students to further explore their topics. In addition evaluation of the projects enables an ordering which may then be used to determine which projects might advance to a regional fair, where it is reasonable to expect that many professionals will volunteer their time to talk with the students and encourage them in their exploration of science.
Part 2 of the Manual is divided into 4 sections:
- Who Should Do the Judging?
- How to Judge Effectively
- Science Fair Rubrics and How to Use Them
- Judging versus Evaluation
